Katie VanderWeide, LMSW Virtual Therapist
Online Telehealth Therapist for Michigan Residents
About Katie VanderWeide, LMSW
As a psychotherapist, I work with adults and adolescents around various concerns including (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, relationship concerns and trauma. Within these dynamics, I have a particular focus on women struggling with anxiety, people pleasing, and relationship issues. I have five years of clinical experience working with ages across the lifespan, I work on developing insight, improving self-esteem, and building resiliency.
I also have a goldendoodle named Lewis (after C.S. Lewis, the author of the Chronicles of Narnia), who you may meet if he is feeling brave during one of our sessions (one of the joys of telehealth is sharing this piece of my life with my clients!)
My Approach
When my clients come to me for therapy, they can expect a warm, highly individualized and collaborative approach. I approach counseling in a holistic and attachment-informed manner, meaning I consider your mind, your body, and soul/spirit, with special emphasis on how our earliest relationships impact and shape us as people. I specialize in working with women just like you- empathetic, intelligent women who struggle with anxiety. We are going to heal the core of your fears, nurture your inner child, and cultivate freedom and safety from within your body!
Specifically, I have a background in psychodynamic psychotherapy, attachment theory and “parts work” (IFS informed), blended with somatic/nervous system informed methods.
How my passion for therapy developed.
After recovering from my own struggles that came out of growing up as a sensitive person and people pleaser, it has become my passion to help women who are going through similar situations. As women, we are expected to be and do so much for others, that we forget who we are and what we want and need. Helping women remembering who we are at our core, and acting in alignment with our hearts and values is one of my life’s biggest privileges.
Whether you are a new mom coping with the transition into motherhood, struggling with opening yourself up in intimate partnerships, navigating the aftermath of an infidelity, or just trying to survive as a sensitive soul in an over-stimulating world- it is my privilege to provide a warm and inviting space for you unfold and heal the layers of fear and pain that have been holding you back for so long!
Online Therapy for Anxiety
As an online therapist, I am often asked, “is virtual therapy effective for treating anxiety?”. And my answer is a resounding YES! I have found that my clients appreciate the flexibility and comfort meeting with me virtually provides. In dealing with challenging subjects, they find it comforting to meet me in the comforts of their own homes.
If you live in Michigan, all you have to do is find a private room, grab a blanket, your favorite cup of tea and you’ll be good to go!
